Artists Make the Mountain Holidays Special
December 3, 2011

Dulcie Lindsoe-Johansen, a Mountain resident creating pottery for more than
30 years, sees some nice advantages for both buyers and artists this holiday
season when it comes to giving local art.
“That’s a win-win for everybody,” Lindsoe-Johansen said. “You save gas and
don’t have to go into town. (You give) a nice functional gift they can use for
years to come; shopping on the Mountain helps all of us.”
Lindsoe-Johansen is one of many Mountain artists offering creations ideal for
gifts. Her items include mugs, bowls, pitchers and whimsical “people pots”
and other sculptural items. All the pieces are oven, microwave and dishwasher
safe, and prices range from $5 to $50.
Lindsoe-Johansen’s pieces can be found at Cafe Aria, the Government Camp
General Store, Timberline Lodge and the Mount Hood Cultural Center and
Museum, plus in some New Seasons markets and Made in Oregon stores. She
will also offer a studio sale at 69177 Barlow Trail Road from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4.

Steve Ludeman has worked intensively in watercolors for the past 16 years,
with the Welches artist finding inspiration in the natural setting that surrounds
him.
“I kind of interpret my love of the outdoors through my art,” said Ludeman, a
landscape painter who has enjoyed outdoor activities such as skiing, kayaking
and climbing. “I think being up here has definitely stimulated that.”
Ludeman’s work is available as photo prints, limited edition prints and
originals, ranging in price from $40 to $1,000, and available at Timberline
Lodge, the MHCCM, the Wy’east Book Shoppe, the Sandy Historical Society
and the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce office.
“A lot of visitors who come up here are looking for local art,” Ludeman said.
“It shares the joy. I have so much joy in creating local art and I would like to
share that with other people.

Sue Allen will also hold a studio sale during the first weekend of December.
The sale, on Barlow Trail Road and Donny Dale Lane in Brightwood, will
feature original screen prints, cards and more up to 40 percent off (prices will
range from $5 to $500).
“It’s something you can enjoy forever,” said Allen, of giving artwork as a gift.
The open house will take place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 through
Sunday, Dec. 4. Items are also available at Cafe Aria, Wraptitude, Three
Sisters Coffee, MHCCM and Government Camp General Store.

Becky Semler, a crocheted jewelry and fiber arts artist from Zigzag, makes
“just about everything” and finds her inspiration from nature. Her pieces of
jewelry are available at the Wy’east Book Shoppe, Timberline Lodge and the
Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s just always nice to support your local community,” she said.
