Bank Robbed; Suspect Flees

March 3, 2011

by Larry Berteau/MT

The local Clackamas County Bank was robbed and the suspect is still on the
loose.

At 9:54 a.m., Feb. 8, the robbery was reported to the Clackamas County
Sheriff’s Office, indicating a man who claimed to have a gun had obtained an
undisclosed amount of cash and had fled the scene.

Deputies searched the area – including use of K-9s and surveillance airplane –
but the suspect was not apprehended and remains at large. The coordinated
search lasted more than two hours.

No weapon was observed by bank employees, but the suspect told employees
he had one when demanding the money. No injuries were reported.

Ed Storey, executive vice president of the local bank, was tight-lipped about
the incident for security reasons.

“In this business, the more information you release, the more it prompts
copy-cats,” Storey said.

According to deputies the suspect was wearing a (snowboarder type) black
mask over his face, and Storey confirmed that he had it on when he entered
the bank.

“But it happened quickly,” he said. “He was in the bank less than a minute.”
The suspect was observed fleeing the area of the bank on foot, running across
Hwy. 26, toward Arrah Wanna Boulevard.

He is described as a white man, 25, 6-feet tall, 160 pounds, wearing a black
hooded sweat shirt, red-colored gloves, gray sweats and dirty white tennis
shoes.

The sheriff’s office and FBI are conducting the ongoing criminal investigation.
Anyone with information concerning this crime is asked to contact the sheriff’s
