The Mt. Hood Cultural Center and Museum is staging the second annual
Barlow Road Ride as a benefit for the museum.
The two-day century road tour (100 miles) from Oregon City to Government
Camp – with an optional ride up the West Leg Trail to Timberline Lodge – is
set for Aug. 17 and 18.
Riders of all abilities can participate. Almost all of the ride will be on quiet
rural roads with little vehicular traffic. This year there will be the option to ride
up Still Creek road from Hwy. 26 to Government Camp, thereby avoiding
traveling Hwy. 26 at all.
This is a fully supported ride with rest stops approximately every 10 miles,
where riders will enjoy plenty of food and energy drinks. Top-notch volunteers
will welcome and sustain riders as they pedal away the miles.
The registration fee of $85 – of which $50 is tax deductible – for the 2-day
ride, includes all the necessary ride support including: food, energy drinks,
toilets, sag wagons, massage, mechanics and medical help.
The world-class route rolls along the famous Barlow Road, past the Clackamas
River, then up the Sandy River via Marmot Ridge to Zigzag, and finally up
Laurel Hill to majestic Mount Hood.
The museum will host a festival in Government Camp complete with spaghetti
feed, beer garden and local artist’s exhibits.
Register for the ride at www.barlowroadride.com.
