March 1, 2014

by Frances Berteau/MT

A spring craft fair and garden swap is being held as an event fundraiser for
the Alzheimer’s Association from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., March 22, at Avamere at
Sandy, 17727 SE Langensand Road.

Hand-sewn baby clothes, jewelry, arts, paintings and more will be featured at
the craft fair according to Stephanie Johanesen of Welches, the organizer of
the first annual craft fair at Avamere at Sandy. Johanesen is the founder of
“Handcrafted in Sandy,” a local artists and crafters group on Facebook.
“There are a lot of local artisans that have amazing talent to offer,”
Johanesen said. “Sandy is a wonderful community for this.”

Johanesen has close ties to Avamere with both her mother and her
grandmother living at the facility. “Avamere is extremely excited to host this
craft fair,” she added.

Proceeds from the vendors’ table costs and raffle will go toward the
Alzheimers Association. Local artisans interested in registering for the craft
fair can contact Avamere at Sandy, 503-668-4199 or the Sandy Area
Chamber of Commerce, 503-668-4066.

If walking is your passion and you would like to help raise funds for the
Alzheimer’s Association, the Portland Walk to End Alzheimers is to be held at
the Portland International Raceway on September 7, 2014. To organize your
walk team and register for the event, go to www.alz.org.
