Lodge Gets a New Yule Puppy

January 2, 2012

The longstanding tradition of St. Bernards at Timberline Lodge continued this Christmas with the arrival of Bruno,an irresistible 8-week-old purebred St. Bernard.

Since the lodge’sdedication in 1937, St. Bernards have been a part of Timberline. The first St. Bernards were Lady and Bruel. Briefly, the St. Bernard mascots were replaced with huskies, but in the 1950s when the Kohnstamm family took over management
of the lodge, they brought back the St. Bernards.

The first Kohnstamm mascot was Mac, who belonged to an employee. Since
the 1960s the lodge has always had St. Bernards named Heidi and Bruno.

Wes Gagnon, the lodge’s food and beverage manager, is Bruno’s new master.

Jeff Kohnstamm described the moment: “We are happy to keep that tradition
alive. People are thrilled with this new puppy.”
