Skibowl Braces for Winter, and Adventure Seekers

November 2, 2011

by Monica Cory/MT

There’s snow in the air and Skibowl is the landing zone.

“Our mission remains to make Skibowl fun and accessible for all families who want to enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities,” said Kirk Hanna, owner and operator of Mt. Hood Skibowl. “We are excited to offer so many opportunities for families to enjoy themselves during the winter.”

Located an hour east of Portland, Skibowl has emerged into a family friendly
alpine resort with something for everyone, including the recently expanded
Snow Tube and Adventure Park.

The park features three multi-lane, staff-monitored, groomed tube hills, and
this year guests can ride more and trudge less.

“We’ve expanded the snow tube area considerably and added a conveyor lift
to help all guests more easily access Multorpor Lodge,” Hanna said.

The new conveyor lift will carry people effortlessly uphill, starting steps from
the parking lot and ending adjacent to the tube hill and Multorpor Lodge.

“Tubers will be able to ride more and wait less,” Hanna said. “Likewise, skiers,
with lots of gear, and especially those with kids heading over to Mogul Busters
Ski School, will especially appreciate the conveyor lift.”

New this year, all-ages cosmic tubing will be introduced on Saturdays and
winter break evenings featuring party music and lights. Also unique this year
are Mini Z snowmobiles for kids, indoor and outdoor play areas, and a snow
carousel that will twirl young tubers around in a snowy circle.

Sleigh Rides
Nothing will put you in the mood for the holidays quicker than the sound of
jingle bells from a horsedrawn sleigh, and Mt. Hood Adventure – the area’s
leading recreational outfitter – can book winter sleigh rides around the village
of Government Camp that will start in December.

They can also book guided snowmobile tours, cross country and snowshoeing
excursions. For any of these winter activities, call 503-715-2175 ext. 1063, or
contact www.mthoodadventure.com.

Skiers and Riders
Skibowl provides snow riders with 960 skiable acres in the Mount Hood
National Forest. Known as America’s largest night ski area, the resort features
34 fully illuminated night runs, 65 runs total and a vertical drop of 1,500 feet.

With the most black diamond (advanced) runs in Oregon, Skibowl appeals to
accomplished riders – night and day.

Those in the know are lured to Skibowl’s Outback, the legendary 300-acre
wilderness with forested steeps, open glades and ungroomed slopes that are
nothing short of heavenly.

Beginner skiers are also welcome and can take lessons either at the Olympic
Ski School or at the Mogul Buster Ski School – which for more than 50 years
has catered to families with children age 4 to 13.

With forecasters predicting a better than average snowfall year, there should
be lots of time to enjoy all the winter fun available around Mount Hood.
