Indulgence is the order of the day as the Mountain feast returns.
The Mt. Hood Area Chamber of Commerce rolls out its fourth annual Bite of Mt
Hood, set for 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, April 20 in the Cascade Ballroom at
The Resort at The Mountain.
Jamie Damon, regional solution coordinator for Gov. Kitzhaber and former
Clackamas County Commissioner, will act as the master of ceremonies.
“The Bite is a wonderful time for everyone to get together, have fun with
friends and family, eat some great food from restaurants and be able to take
home a fabulous auction item,” said Coni Scott, president of the Mt. Hood
Chamber of Commerce.
Culinary delights can be sampled from an array of local restaurants, including:
Resort at The Mountain, Busy Bee Catering, Ivy Bear, The Rendezvous,
Hazelnut House Bakery, The Shack, El Burro Loco, The Skyway and The
Whistlestop.
In addition to a tasty selection of fare to enjoy, an exceptional list of auction
items include jewelry, golf packages, hotel and lodging, art in a variety of
media – including two paintings from the Resort – books and for fire engine
buffs, a gift certificate for a ride up to five people in a Hoodland Fire
Department fire engine.
There are approximately 200 outstanding items for auction and a complete list
is available at www.thebiteofmthood.com.
“It’s a bit nerve wracking because it’s the biggest event that takes place in
town all year,” said Tom Anderson, owner of The Rendezvous and auctioneer
for the oral and silent auction. “But the auction adds a lot of excitement to the
event. And, the food is really good, there’s a lot of variety. The Bite is a huge
gathering and everyone has a really good time.”
Cases of food including tuna, peaches, soups, jams and more will also be
auctioned to benefit the Neighborhood Missions of Hoodland Lutheran Church.
The Neighborhood Missions assists with firewood, utility and rent payments,
food, repairs, transportation, medicines and more.
Local artist Steve Ludeman is this year’s winner of the “Recognizing
Excellence” award, which is given in conjunction with The Bite. Previous
winners include Mountain stalwarts Sue Allen, Dave Enna and Alan Dyck.
After making the rounds of the restaurant vendors and bidding on your
favorite auction item, grab your dancing shoes and boogie to the music of Bob
Voll, a Mountain favorite. He will be sure to have you tapping your feet and
singing along with his songs from today and the 70s.
Besides supporting the Chamber of Commerce, funds raised from The Bite go
to the Mountain Express Line, Welches Schools, Neighborhood Missions, the
Clackamas Women’s Services and many more worthy causes.
Admission is $5 and $2 scrips are available for food and drink.
