Local artist Steve Ludeman provided a sneak preview to the art extravaganza at the Resort at the Mountain.
Ludeman entertained and instructed an eager audience at the Wy’east Book
Shoppe & Art Gallery Sept. 21 – and set the stage for the watercolor exhibit
dubbed “Art with Altitude” which will run Oct. 7 to Oct. 25 at the Resort.
Ludeman shared many of his watercolors at the Wy’east event and invited the
audience to probe into the mind of an artist.
“This will let you get inside the head of an artist, and ramble around a bit,”
Ludeman said.
His primary theme was exploring the drama in art, and singling out the
elementary aspects of watercolor that contribute to the drama:
complementary colors, opposite values, shapes, composition, design and
story.
“I am especially drawn to this area,” he said. “The local beauty, especially
Mount Hood, provides a terrific environment for me.”
Ludeman will chair the Watercolor Society of Oregon’s fall show at the resort.
The event will feature the work of 80 Oregon artists who made the cut for the
exhibit. The top 20, to be judged by California artist Chris Van Winkle, will go
on tour around the state after the show.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the local community to enjoy some of the
best art in Oregon, and indeed throughout the country,” Ludeman said
WSO is a rapidly growing watercolor society with more than 900 members.
The society includes beginning, intermediate and advanced artists;
professional artists, graphic designers, art educators, and illustrators.
